Professional makeup artist Nicole Jacob has been helping Chicagoans put their best face forward for almost 30 years. A master at amplifying a girl’s natural beauty while giving cheek bones and pouts that added pop, her loyal following of devotees runs deep. “It’s wild because I now have multigenerational clients—mothers and daughters,” says Jacob. “I started doing their mom’s glam for special events and now I’m doing their daughter’s wedding makeup.”

Jacob is also Chicago’s eyebrow whisperer. Rather than waxing, which can cause premature aging around the eyes, she goes in with tweezers and scissors to keep things meticulous while taking into account each individual’s face and natural arch shape. “I can look at someone and see right away where their arch should go,” explains Jacob. “Full, natural-looking brows are trending right now. It’s all about taming that thickness while opening up the eyes.”

And in 2006, unsatisfied with the quality and price points for lipsticks, eyeshadows, mascaras and more that were cornering the marketplace—and because her clients were begging for her to blend her own shades—Jacob launched her own eponymous line of makeup, Nicole Jacob Chicago. “I figured if Bobbi Brown could start her own line in her garage in Barrington, I could do it, too.” From long-lasting lip glosses to custom-blended batches of foundation, it’s not uncommon for her hottest hues to sell out fast. It’s also not unusual for media heavies like W, Allure and Martha Stewart Weddings magazines to come a calling for her beauty expertise.

Recently relocated to Nancy Angelair Salon in the Gold Coast, Jacob books about 12 brides a year, consulting and executing their big-day looks for photo perfection. For spring/summer 2020, she’s forecasting radiant skin and subtle metallics. “Overall, brides are asking for less foundation—less contouring and makeup that doesn’t look like you’re wearing makeup,” says Jacob. “The key is illuminating in all the right places, giving the appearance of dewy, shiny, fresh-looking skin.” As for the eyes, she recommends pairing metallic gold and peachy bronze shadows with combed out, fluffy lashes. “Think a natural, healthy and romantic glow with some understated drama around the eyes—beautiful.”

We asked Jacob to select five of her favorite products from her makeup line to get the look—and sustain all that gorgeousness throughout the big day. Here are her picks…
